Explanation of Cross and Cradle
Cross and Cradle
The cross is the most obvious and it is the symbol that reminds us of the Roman instrument of torture and death that was used to put Jesus to death. Yet, for the Christian, it is a symbol of our Lord’s victory over sin, and that on the cross Jesus paid the penalty for our transgressions against God…thus freeing us from being declared guilty of breaking God’s laws upon our deaths.
Of course, the cross would not have been possible unless Jesus had been born and so the second symbol is that of the manger seen from its end and overlaid in the cross, for indeed, Jesus was born for one purpose, to die on the cross.
