EMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH FOOD PANTRY

Why Another Food Pantry?

Have you ever wondered why Emanuel's Food Pantry was started? How many people does it help? Can I be a part of this service to those hurting in our community?

Our food pantry was begun as a response to the growing economic crisis that began well over five years ago. Begin located on Hwy 19, our church is highly visible, and as such, many people who are in need often stop in the church office (more than you might think) seeking help to make it through another week of unemployment, unpaid bills, medical expenses and the like. Of course, we can't assist every person with their particular wants or needs, but it was felt that we could at the very least, lift or remove the burden of a grocery bill from these people's lives.

What you might not know is that most of the other food pantries in our area have very limited times or access as well as restrictions (such as local residency for six months) that preclude or make it difficult for struggling families. Therefore, our Food Pantry is open to everyone who needs help, during the day on Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 to 3, opposite the days that the Encore Pantry is open. It is also important for members to know that the use of the pantry is completely anonymous; no one except Pastor or Mary know who uses it.

Everyone can contribute to assist the 10-15 families a week that we help by donating money or non-perishable food items that are not past their "good by" date.

If you'd like to help in this or in any other way, or if you have questions, please contact Pastor Roloff.
